When people look at horror and other films today, one can often wonder what could have possibly influenced the these films in the first place. Frankenstein has arguably been the most influential film in the film industry. Before Frankenstein was introduced, horror films were never as scary as some films today. At the most, audiences only received small chills or shivers from the images within the film. However, after the novel Frankenstein was released, which then eventually influenced a director to make a film based off of the novel, horror films began taking a better turn and include some techniques used from Frankenstein in order to achieve some of the effects Frankenstein instilled into its audience.
Some influences Frankenstein instilled could include story concepts, character designs and structures or even a original film based off of the monster with an original story line Films may include Van Helsing; which revolved around classic monsters, Hotel Transylvannia; a kid friendly animation where Frankenstein is actually present, and The Munsters; A 1960 television series in which the main character is Frankenstein who is actually a family man.
"If it were not for Frankenstein, the horror movie genre would be completely different" (Larry Poupard)
(Brandon Bradley, Ignacio Cambray)
What do you extrapolate (conjecture, infer) from this phenomenon-- i.e. What do you think the genre of horror is a trope of on a massive scale?
